Remember… “All scripture is God-breathed and useful”(2 Timothy 3:16)

The exploration of Revelation 15:1-4 unveils a profound tapestry of divine justice and hope, wherein the imagery of the seven angels heralding final disasters serves not merely as a harbinger of punishment but as a catalyst for liberation. Dr. Brad Miller articulates a vision wherein these disasters can be reinterpreted as the dismantling of oppressive systems that plague humanity and creation alike. This perspective invites us to transcend traditional notions of vengeance and instead embrace a theology of restoration, emphasizing that divine justice is intrinsically linked to the liberation and healing of the marginalized.

Takeaways:

  • This episode explores the concept of divine justice as a form of liberation rather than punishment.
  • We reflect on the importance of collective resistance against systemic oppression in our societies.
  • The passage emphasizes universal inclusion, inviting all nations to recognize justice and love.
  • Art and creativity are highlighted as essential tools in the journey of social transformation.
  • Listeners are encouraged to engage personally with issues of injustice by writing their own songs of liberation.
  • The power of prayer is invoked, asking for courage and wisdom in the pursuit of justice.

Speaker A:

Brad Miller hello good people.

Speaker A:

Welcome to Daily Bible Refresh with Dr.

Speaker A:

Brad Miller.

Speaker A:

million years by the year:

Speaker A:

That's a million people.

Speaker A:

You can help us do that by going to voiceofgoddaily.com and joining our daily reading of the New Testament, which comes from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Speaker A:

We're in year C of a three year cycle.

Speaker A:

We make the reading of the Bible understandable, relatable and applicable.

Speaker A:

We give you a prayer to boot.

Speaker A:

We do all that by making reading for the Message version of the Bible, having some points to ponder and an applic.

Speaker A:

It's all brought to you by voiceofgoddaily.com that is the home of the ABC 123 Bible Study Method.

Speaker A:

Let's get into our reading for today from the Revelation 15:1 4 Reading from the message the song of Moses, the song of the Lamb.

Speaker A:

I saw another sign in heaven, huge and breathtaking.

Speaker A:

Seven angels with seven disasters.

Speaker A:

These are the final disasters, the wrap up of God's wrath.

Speaker A:

I saw something like a sea made of glass, the glass all shot through with fire, carrying harps of God triumphant over the beast, its image and the number of its name.

Speaker A:

The saved ones stood on the sea of glass.

Speaker A:

They sang the song of Moses, servant of God.

Speaker A:

They sang the song of the lamb, Mighty your acts and marvellous, O King, the sovereign, strong, righteous your ways and true King of the nations who can fail to fear you.

Speaker A:

God give glory to your name because you and you only are holy.

Speaker A:

All nations will come and worship you because they see your judgments.

Speaker A:

All right, that ends this reading of the scripture which we're exploring, this powerful vision from the Book of Revelation that speaks to matters of divine justice, collective liberation, and the power of sacred resistance.

Speaker A:

So let's get into some points to ponder.

Speaker A:

The first one is reimagining divine justice.

Speaker A:

While traditional interpretations often focus on the punishment and wrath aspects of this passage, I believe this passage invites us to see God's justice through a liberation lens.

Speaker A:

The seven disasters noted here can be understood as the dismantling of oppressive systems that harm creation and humanity.

Speaker A:

So this isn't about vengeance, it's about restoration and making things right.

Speaker A:

The second point is the power of collective resistance.

Speaker A:

The image of people standing on a sea of glass having triumphed over the beast, reminds us that resistance to empire and systematic injustice is deeply spiritual work.

Speaker A:

The harps they carry suggest that art, music and creativity are powerful tools in the work of social transformation.

Speaker A:

The third point to ponder is about universal inclusion and radical welcome.

Speaker A:

The declaration in this passage that all nations will come in worship points to a vision of radical inclusivity.

Speaker A:

So this isn't about religious supremacy, but about a universal recognition of justice, truth and love as the fundamental forces that shape our world.

Speaker A:

Here's our action step for today.

Speaker A:

Choose a system of oppression that concerns you.

Speaker A:

It could be climate or injustice, economic inequality, a systematic political racism.

Speaker A:

Write down your own song of liberation.

Speaker A:

So this could be a poem, an actual song, a prayer, maybe a social media post that speaks truth to power while celebrating hope and resistance.

Speaker A:

I'm going to come back and have a prayer in just a moment, but I did really want to let you know that we have a Bible study resource to help you.

Speaker A:

It's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Guidelines and it really makes reading the Bible in your own right as easy as ABC 123.

Speaker A:

You could find it in our show notes@voiceofgod daily.com let's pray divine God, you are a divine love and we stand in our own sea of glass today caught between fire and hope.

Speaker A:

Give us courage to resist the forces that diminish life and humanity.

Speaker A:

Help us tune our hearts to the songs of liberation that echo through the ages.

Speaker A:

May we find creative ways to participate in your work of justice and restoration.

Speaker A:

Remind us that when we stand for truth and justice, we never stand alone.

Speaker A:

Grant us wisdom to see beyond surface level interpretations of power and help us be agents of transformation change in our communities in the spirit of love and justice.

Speaker A:

Amen.
