Speaker A:We're in years six sea of that cycle in the epiphany season.

Speaker A:Our main reading for the day is from Gospel of Luke, chapter 11, verses 24 through 28.
Speaker A:Reading from the message When a corrupting spirit is expelled from someone, it drifts along through the desert looking for an oasis, some unsuspecting soul it can be devil.
Speaker A:When it doesn't find anyone, it says, I'll go back to my old haunt.
Speaker A:In return, it finds the person swept and dusted, but vacant.
Speaker A:It then runs out and rounds up seven other spirits dirtier than itself, and they all move in, whooping it up.
Speaker A:That person ends up far worse than if he'd never gotten cleaned up in the first place.
Speaker A:While he was saying these things, some woman lifted her voice above the murmur of the crowd, blessed the womb that carried you and the breast of which you nursed.
Speaker A:And Jesus commented even more, blessed are those who hear God's word and guard it with their lives.
Speaker A:An interesting passage of scripture here about a take on spiritual wholeness.
Speaker A:And it talks about kind of redefining a message about wandering spirits.
Speaker A:So let's, let's take a look at some teaching points here, some points to ponder.
Speaker A:One has to do with the exorcising of demons or solving systematic problems here.
Speaker A:Jesus's story isn't about literal demons, but the danger of of half measures when we clean house with surface level fixes, donating to food banks without really challenging poverty systems, posting solidarity statements about racism without actually working to dismantle racism or leave rooms empty that are far worse when there are far worse systems to settle.
Speaker A:True liberation requires filling spaces with radical love and systematic change.
Speaker A:A second point Blessed are the doers, not the admirers.
Speaker A:Jesus redirects the woman's praise of his biological motherhood to celebrate those who live God's word.
Speaker A:And in our era, this critiques kind of a of trite, you know, thoughts and prayers without really going for real change in relationships or things addressing the true tragedies of our lives.
Speaker A:Being blessed means guarding a living faith through climate advocacy, prison reform, LBGTQ plus inclusion, not just admiring holy icons.
Speaker A:Point number three, the myth of spiritual neutrality.
Speaker A:The point about the phrase that swept and vacant house warns against complacency, nature and injustice abhorbs a vacuum our silence on issues like wars in places like Palestine, migrant rights, wealth inequality isn't neutrality, it's vacancy that harmful ideologies colonize.
Speaker A:Progressive faith demands we occupy our spirituality with tangible commitments.
Speaker A:Here's your action step for the day.
Speaker A:Do not leave a vacant room in your spiritual house.
Speaker A:What I mean by that is if you really are supporting of something like Black Lives Matter, do something about it.
Speaker A:You know, do something to fight against racism.
Speaker A:If you recycle, challenge other companies, other places around you to recycle as well.
Speaker A:If you pray for peace, then do something about it.
Speaker A:Write your senator or do something to advocate for peace and not just give it empty gestures.
